Large Quilters Ruler - 6 1/2 X 24 1/2 inch The most vital rulers needed for quilting include a large ruler (6X24), a smaller ruler (6X12), and square rulers. RULERS EVERY QUILTER NEEDS (ESSENTIAL OR BASIC RULERS) The specialty rulers can spark inspiration and creativity and should only be purchased if needed for a specific project. Once you have those ideal rulers, you can expand your collection to include rulers that will make quilting easier. ![]() It is my hope that this list organized in this way will help you determine which rulers you need and should get first. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They definitely make things easier, but are not necessary unless you decide to make a project utilizing that block/technique and want to make the process easier. Specialty rulers and templates are made for a specific type of quilt block or quilting technique. Often the result of using these rulers is a quicker way to complete the same task that another ruler could accomplish. When you have the right tools things go much smoother. So much frustration can be removed if you have the right quilting ruler. Rulers that make quilting easier perform a specific function that speeds up the quilting process or simplifies it. They are the first rulers that the beginner quilter should buy. They can be used for multiple functions and they are the ones that I use the most. Specialty quilting rulers and templatesĮssential rulers are ones that I deem necessary to perform the basics needed in quilting.Essential or necessary quilting rulers that every quilter needs.In an attempt to help the novice quilter, I am going to separate this article into 3 categories. The vast quantity of quilting rulers and templates available today can be quite overwhelming. ![]() Quilting rulers are clear with straight lines as well as degree angle lines that come in handy to make angled cuts. Using a rotary cutter, cut along the edge of the ruler to cut a perfectly straight line. The fabric is placed on a cutting mat and the ruler is set in place. Quilting rulers are thick acrylic rulers that help you make accurate cuts. You can do the price checking and determine the best option for you.
